I pass by this shop pretty regularly, and it’s never open. I so want to go in – when I peek through the door, I can see an old jukebox and a couple of huge radio sets. It’s in one of the few Art Deco buildings in the neighborhood, and it’s really beautifully preserved. The walls are painted just the right shade of turquoise dark salmon of the door is reflected in the exterior tile.
The last time I walked by, there was a sign saying the store had closed. I now have fantasies of opening a gift and vintage furniture shop in that space and calling it “The Radio Shop.” But that might confuse people who are looking for the Radio Shack six blocks up.
Anyway, a girl can dream. I’d settle for an hour in the shop to play with the radios and learn about the history of the store.
Too bad -I just heard a bit of history about this shop; seems the guy had been there since ’49 That’s quite an impressive run. Wish I had the $$ to move in, I need a place to display my radio collection..maybe a show S.F. international airport..
