Quick illustration – leaves from my mom’s guava tree. Today’s inaugural poem made me think of the guava tree, planted from seeds my Lola smuggled to the US from the Philippines, and which flourished in my parents’ Los Angeles backyard.  We may have different stories but, in this country, we’re all Americans.
