A large heart

Today is my 38th birthday. I had a post specifically for this occasion, but then Jake got very, very sick. His heart, already working overtime due to a heart murmur, is now so enlarged that it’s knocking up against his lungs. After a long day at the ER, Jake is at home, resting, and is okay for the moment. But I know I’m facing the inevitable.

I’m not going to dwell on that.

Instead, I’m going to be grateful for everything I have – for the sweet dog who has lived with me for seven years, for my amazing friends and family who never fail to amaze me, for this beautiful city I live in, for my creative life, for all the changes I have planned in the new year. Whenever I realize how incredibly lucky I am, my heart swells until I, too, feel like I have a large heart.

I am so lucky to have had 38 years on this earth.

  1. I was inspired by your post. So often we loose site of what matters and instead we focus our energy on the things that we cannot change or do anything about. Happy Birthday
