I bought this bag over a year ago at the Alameda Flea Market. It was in a box with a bunch of fabric scraps, and when I asked the vendor how much it was, I secretly braced myself for a quote that was way out of my price range. He responded “Oh, fifteen dollars.”
I don’t think he knew what he had.
The bag appears to be made from a heavy linen and is completely hand-sewn, which makes me think it’s very, very old. It is embroidered on both sides with a phoenix pattern. It’s pretty amazing. I should probably stop hanging it on my wall with tacks and get it properly framed.
Anyone out there have any idea what this bag was meant for or how old it is?
That bag is amazing! And I’m quite jealous because I’ve wanted to go to the alameda flea market for years, but have never made it.
